What to Look for During
a Home Showing

Walking through a home allows you to picture your life in the space, but it’s also your chance to look a little closer and make sure the home is the right fit.
Here are 10 simple things to keep an eye on during your showing:
1. Floors
Take a look as you walk through. Do they feel level? Are there scratches or soft spots? These small details can give clues about wear or possible repairs.
2. Cabinets & Drawers
Go ahead and open them, it’s expected! Make sure they function properly, and check under sinks for any signs of leaks or moisture.
3. Curb Appeal
First impressions matter. A well-kept exterior and landscaping can be a good sign the home has been cared for over time.
4. Exterior Condition
If you can, take a quick walk around the home. Look for things like cracks, peeling paint, or roof wear that could turn into future projects.
5. Any Unusual Smells
Trust your nose. Musty or strong odors might point to hidden issues like moisture or ventilation problems.
6. Signs of Water Damage
Keep an eye out for stains or discoloration on ceilings and walls which can signal past or current leaks.
7. Appliances
If they’re included, give them a quick test. It’s helpful to know what’s in working condition.
8. Heating & Cooling
Try the thermostat briefly to make sure everything is running as it should.
9. Yard & Outdoor Space
Think about how you’d use the outdoor space. Check for drainage, slope, and overall maintenance.
10. Windows & Doors
Open and close a few to see how they feel. This can help you spot drafts or sealing issues.
